By the way, last weekend I went to watch BANDAGE with
sourangel.
I couldn't but stop feeling it disappointing that most of the audience were the young fangirls who might never experienced the 'band-boom' in Japan in the early '90s with their eyes.
By watching that movie, I understand that achieving the top on the sales ranking by twisting the original music doesn't equal to be the success of the band itself.
If it's what the director and the script writer want to tell us, then, even if this movie will be succeed by earning, if very few audience could understand the background of the story, it wouldn't be considered as the success of the movie itself.
If they never want the audience the knowledge of the background of the story, I mean, the band-boom in the early '90s, they should simply make it as a recent story because the problem in the music business mentioned in the movie still happens now(some of you may know I'm always complaining about it).
And I know it's totally nonsense to complain about it here, for, most of you might not have seen the band-boom either unlike me(I was a fan of no such band at that time, however, as that movement was too big, I automatically memorized about it).
Hopefully some of you may take some interest in our old pop/rock music by watching that movie as a trigger.
One of the most valuable bands from the band-boom which is still working is, in my opinion, BEGIN.
They are from Okinawa and play pop music influenced by Okinawan music and Blues.
One more band from band-boom as my recommendation is UNICORN.
They disbanded once, but last year they gathered again.
Some of you may know the vocalist OKUDA Tamio, who is a producer of Puffy.
I really feel it silly to post about the real band-boom in past as most of you on my f-list might be fangirls who wouldn't care about it, but as a responsibility of Japanese who have experienced it, I'm now posting. :(
By the way, did you know that they originally tried to film BANDAGE with NARIMIYA Hiroki as a main actor and SAKUMA Masahide as a music director?
Somehow they couldn't make it but I actually wanted to watch it as it might be less fangirlish and more focused on the history of pop/rock music.
